The son of country singer Ray Sr., Ray Scott was raised in the farming community of Semora, NC. He was drawn at a young age to the blue-collar crooning of Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash, a style that he brought to his first band at the age of 19. Intimidated by the politics of the industry, Scott packed up and headed for Atlanta to meet the beast head on, earning an associate's degree from the Music Business Institute. His experience there helped make the road to Nashville a little less bloody, and it was in Nashville that he began to hone his craft, gaining experience through numerous failures and the occasional success.
