A Detroit, MI based twin sister-led band that specialized in a melange of folk, rock, country, garage rock, jangly indie rock, the Beatles, Bowie, Billie Holiday, and pop standards, the Sisters Lucas were well on their way to the higher echelons of the scene, attracting the attentions of such luminaries as Don Was within a year of formation. Led by Julie (alto vocal, electric keyboards, xylophone, melodica) and Loretta Lucas (soprano vocal, autoharp, and acoustic guitar), the band was rounded out by Jamiel Dado (bass), Cheryl Larson (bass clarinet), and Brett Lee Pickens (drums). The group, as a whole -- and as of 2008 -- continued to ply their self-described "progressive pop" as much as possible.
